Here are some hints to create a page that will grab your visitor’s attention:

Strange as it may seem, on a webpage, design is more important that the words…

So let’s go into some design elements to improve your webpage.

The majority of people who land on your site will not read all the way through your schpiel, they will skim through it.

The first thing your visitors will encounter and judge your site by, is the headline, they will then decide whether they will even read on or not.

Even though many pages have this, a bold, red, quoted headline has been proven to be the most effective method of grabbing attention.

Now once you have them past the headline, you want to make sure that they continue on and the best way to do this is to use a graphic letter for the first letter of the first paragraph. This graphic of a letter should be red, the same red as your headline. It should also have a drop-shadow on it. This is proven to grab the reader and get them to start reading. And it should be MUCH larger than the rest of the text.

Try to have the words immediately following the graphic letter be bolded, or at least a larger font than the rest of the text. This gets them to see the letter and read the first line.

Then it’s up to your words to hold them there. But odds are high that they will still begin to skim, towards the bottom of the page to see the offer or the price. They want to see if it’s worth their time reading the entire thing.

As they decend down the page, you MUST grab their attention and there are a few design elements that will do this…

Bullets are great since they are indented and stand out as there is more white space on both sides of them. For this reason bullets are a necessity.

But bullets only get you so far, you need something more, something that stands out against the entire grain of the site…

This is where you use “Johnson Boxes” which is a section of your page that is separated by a border and boxed in. Here is a big secret… the ones that grab the reader the most are ones that have a colored inside! It has great stopping power and draws a LOT of attention to it.

But there is much more to it. A box like this is great for a testimonial, or a key benefit or bullet list, if you want to make even more advancements to your design, you could use the “negative colored box”…

This is abox that is colored on the white background, but then inside of the colored box you have another box (or series of them) that have a white background.

This “negative box” approach is by far one of the single best ways to stop the skimmer in their tracks and have them check out what’s inside.

Let’s see, what else…

Having hand written fonts or actual scanned hand writing put on your page is very effective. If you offer a guarantee and you put it in a handwriting, it makes it very sincere.

These are some of the secret tactics used by copywriters.

Some words to use on your page that make people buy your product:

1. "fast" ~ People want fast results, fast delivery, fast ordering, etc. We value our time more than our money.

2. "guaranteed"  ~ People want to be assured they are not risking money buying your product.

3. "limited" ~ People want to own or receive things that’s exclusive or rare and therefore considered to be more valuable.

4. "easy/simple"  ~ People want easy ordering, easy instructions, easy to use,
easy payments, etc.

5. "testimonial"  ~ People want to see believable proof. It should be reputable and specific proof.

6. "discount/sale"  ~ People want to find bargains. They could be rebates, one
time sales, percentage offers, get one free offers, etc.

7. "free"  ~ People want free incentives before they do business with you. They
could be free books, accessories, services, etc.

8. "you/your"  ~ People want to know you are talking them. This will make them
feel important and attract them to read the whole ad.

9. "important"  ~ People don’t want to miss important information that could
effect their life. People will stop and take notice.

10. "new" ~ People want new products, services, technology that will improve their life.

It is very important to get your site known and remembered. The value of branding cannot be stressed enough. You want your site to be memorable. It is fine if you have other sites flowing off your site, but the Mother site should be one that sticks in the minds of people and one that they can easily associate with your product.
Now let’s get to the importance of your website’s background colours and how it effects your visitors. Brighter colors are an absolute no-go zone. The reason is simple, the primary focus of your sales page is to draw your readers’ attention to the information on your page. Bright colours and crazy graphics detracts from your sales copy and are nothing more than distractions which will leave your visitors confused and ultimately have them click away.
Never use text in your background image such as your products name. You have not done that, which is good, because it will again distract the reader. Our subconscious minds are trained to think in abstract forms, it doesn’t think logically and it will become confused if there are mixed messages within your page.
Here are 3 closely-guarded design secrets…
Font
Your font is an important aspect of your sales page design and it shouldn’t be overlooked. Use a maximum of three different fonts. I would suggest using a dark red and bolded Verdana font for your headlines and either Verdana or Arial for your main sales page content. I recommend steering clear from fonts such as Times New Roman as these types of fonts are designed to be read on pieces of paper, not computer screens.
Graphical Headlines
Another piece of design trickery is the use of the graphical headline. You can use Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro to create a headline that’s a graphic using a different font than your standard set of fonts. This is great because it’s unique, it lets you to customize the font any way you wish and helps prevent ‘headline blindness’. Be careful not to go overboard because your website loading may suffer.
The Order Button
The order button is a crucial element which 99.999% of internet marketers overlook, it should be inviting and attractive.

Here are 2 sites you can go to and present your project to… i.e help to re-design my website… people will read your ad and they will quote you on doing it for you. It is up to you to accept their quote based on price and also on their feedback from other projects they have completed. The sites are:
